Yes, very disappointing, england didn;t play terribly badly up to Rooney getting sent off, and were suorisingly still in it after he did, and i felt the force was with them as we went to penalties...and yet, and yet....
It's largely a lottery of course, but having lost all ths shootouts i can remember, you've gotta think there's somethign about our players psyche...anyway, holland, italy, argentina have all lost their fair share of penalty shootouts, so we shouldnt get too down on ourselves....
Ericsson will get crucified no doubt, some of which is justfied, as his five years in charge petered out year by year, with no organisational imagination, tactical awareness, nor motivational skills. He refused to take any big decsions, and those he did were cautious and wide of the mark.
At the same time, sadly the public will move into scapegoat searching, ericsson aside. Much bleating already about Christiano Ronaldos part on the Rooney red card. It is doubtful whether Ronaldo got Rooney sent off, more Rooney treading on the defender.
Oh, and we have no guile in the side, which ericcson cant be blamed for....
time to move on...
